Sunday Newsletter - Life Must Go On. What Are You Planning?
Nov 03, 2024Hello, Happy Sunday and Happy November!
We truly are in the final throws of 2024.
November will come and go irrespective of the outcome of the USA elections, and irrespective of other major global events.
Life will go on. What’s your plan for you?
Life is Like a Game of Chess.
I was rubbish at chess growing up. It was actually one of those games that I found tough to play.
I use to play against my dad, who was sooo much better at it than the 10 year old me.
As I improved he would up his game, so that I never won.
It was so demotivating, to think I was improving only to be continuously defeated. I think life and business can be like that sometimes.
I was feeling like that last week when I caught a really powerful video by Grant Cardone. He reminded us that an addict will quit and start and quit and start, often hundreds of times. Because they fail, does it mean they should ever give up trying?
Should they give up on the chance that eventually they will make it?
That was a powerful thought at a key moment for me.
Showing Up Online
This putting out content and believing I’m making a difference when it all goes into a vacuum, gets me questioning the value of keeping it up.
I keep going because I have this internal nudge to do ‘one more week’.
Today, I watched a you-tuber I subscribe to challenge us young people (over 50) to do a 10 day challenge on YouTube.
Now I’ve done 100 days on YouTube before and one or two crickets have shown up.
And I know it takes a lifetime to be an over night sensation.
I’m looking for that domino, that thing that will tip the trend.
I am constantly reviewing my content.
I's like the chess game – every time I think I’m getting close, the game gets tougher.
Can you relate?
Is there something in your life or business that you feel compelled to keep going even though you don’t seem to be getting the results?
Grab a cuppa with me (mine's a tasty French blend coffee today), and let's explore the concept of Life as a Game of Chess, with you as the Chess Master.
My Lesson of the Week:
Life As A Game of Chess – The Master Never Gives Up
In today’s fast-paced world, where unpredictability reigns, life can often feel like a game of chess. Each move we make is influenced not only by our internal thoughts and emotions but also by external pressures from media, technology, and global events.
Just as in chess, the greatest battles are fought within ourselves, navigating the complexities of our minds while strategising against the challenges posed by the world around us.
Life as a Chess Game
Chess is a game of strategy, foresight, and adaptability.
Similarly, life demands that we anticipate challenges and respond to them with clarity and purpose.
The unpredictability of current events can feel overwhelming, but it also presents opportunities for growth and resilience.
Here’s how we can powerfully approach this metaphorical chessboard:
7 Tips for Winning the Game of Chess
1. Think Ahead: Always plan your moves several steps in advance to anticipate your opponent's responses.
2. Stay Calm Under Pressure: Maintain composure to make rational decisions rather than emotional ones. When the world looks like chaos, or an unexpected challenge threatens us, take that deep breath, remembering that you are the Chess Master.
3. Learn from Mistakes: Analyse previous games to understand what went wrong and how to improve. Where can you learn from the past? What insights do have now that you didn’t back then?
4. Control the Centre: In chess, controlling the centre gives you more mobility; in life, focus on key areas that influence your overall direction. Also, focus on your centre – that’s where your power is.
5. Adapt Your Strategy: Be flexible and willing to change your approach based on new information or circumstances. I have recently been told to downgrade my goal to fit with my plan. I have decided to shift my thinking and strategy to fit with the larger goal.
6. Protect Your Pieces: Just as you safeguard your pieces, protect your mental health and well-being. Also, protect your environment, your strengths, the places where you know you have the advantage. Identify your assets and keep them safe.
7. Practice Patience: Sometimes waiting for the right moment to act is more advantageous than rushing into decisions. Feel into your intuition and practice expanding your awareness. Time is not as we have been taught. A life can transform in a second.
7 Tips for Life
1. Embrace Uncertainty: Accept that unpredictability is a part of life and learn to navigate it with grace.
2. Cultivate Mindfulness: Stay present to reduce anxiety about the future and enhance your decision-making capabilities.
3. Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you during challenging times. Find a community, a group of like minded people travelling the path with you.
4. Set Realistic Goals: Break down larger ambitions into manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Still keep the goals challenging, to help you expand beyond your comfort zone and grow.
5. Prioritise Self-Care: Regularly engage in activities that rejuvenate your mind and body. Have your ‘revitalisation list at hand – those things you know that lift you and balance you and help you reset.
6. Stay Informed but Not Overwhelmed: Consume news in moderation to stay aware without succumbing to fear or anxiety. In any chess game, it’s good to be aware of your opponents game while playing your own.
7. Reflect Regularly: Take time to assess your thoughts and feelings, ensuring you remain aligned with your values. Keep checking in to ensure it’s the Master in charge and not the ego.
"Life is a chess game where every move counts; embrace the challenges, outsmart your fears, and play with purpose."
I hope this adds value and gives you something to ponder this week.
I would love your thoughts and perspective on this.
7 Tips for Business Founders and Online Entrepreneurs
1. Identify Your Unique Value Proposition: Understand what sets your business apart in a crowded market.
2. Leverage Technology Wisely: Use digital tools to streamline operations but remain cautious of their impact on mental health.
3. Engage with Your Audience: Build relationships with customers through authentic communication and feedback loops.
4. Stay Agile: Be prepared to pivot your business model in response to changing market conditions or consumer needs.
5. Invest in Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends and skills to remain competitive.
6. Create a Strong Brand Identity: Develop a brand that resonates with your audience’s values and aspirations.
7. Balance Work and Life: Set boundaries to prevent burnout, ensuring you have time for personal interests outside of work.
In conclusion, whether navigating the complexities of life or running a business, the principles derived from chess can provide valuable insights into strategy, resilience, and adaptability. By focusing on both internal growth and external strategies, we can better position ourselves to thrive amidst uncertainty, transforming challenges into opportunities for success.
