Wishing you a peaceful, blessed and Merry Christmas

It’s Christmas Eve and I am in the midst of the final preparations for Christmas this year.

As I wrap the last of the gifts and make the final preparations in my home, I am reminded of Christmas past and the family and friends who are no longer with me.

Christmas Past

It was my mum’s birthday on Christmas day and I remember in the past, staying up until midnight on Christmas Eve so we could celebrate her birthday as the Day entered in.
That’s when she had her moment.
A celebration just for her, before the transition into the mayhem of a family Christmas, with mum at the centre, making Christmas happen.

Christmas cake was important because it doubled as a birthday cake.

It's only in hindsight that I remember how hard she worked to pull it all together for five children and with little money to make it ‘work’. Miracles can be achieved with love.

That’s what I remember about Christmas. It being about family and sharing time together. Playing board games, telling stories and jokes, sharing in a wonderful meal and being a family around a table, being present with each other.

There were always debates and upsets, it wasn’t perfect. There were five of us kids, after all. Yet somehow the chaos and humanity of it all meant it was perfect in its imperfection. We were making memories.

It was a special day, where we came together, to be together. I remember the love.

And yes it’s about celebrating the birth of another child who impacted the world profoundly and taught us the truth about ourselves and our power to be greater than we know.

Christmas Alone – Choosing Magic

As an adult Christmas feels different now and this year, as I have mentioned before, I am spending the time alone. I still choose magic. I choose to reflect and to do all of the self-care things I have been putting off for too long.

Long bath, favourite music, read a light and frivolous book, long walks with my fur babies, too much coffee and turkey and catching up with family throughout the day.

I have also put aside time this year for Reach out calls on Christmas Day. I close bookings at 12 midnight (UK).
